Facing Foreclosure

How did it happen? What was I thinking? What went wrong?

We bought that beautiful home, Sue went crazy decorating. We watched HGTV and found some great tips and ideas and "wow" the house turned out great. Celebrated our 10 year anniversary with a trip to Hawaii, beautiful and romantic. Everything was going according to plan . . . but before we knew it we began to struggle financially.  The bills kept piling up, it was impossible to keep up. The creditors started calling, our mortgage payments were behind, then came the “Notice of Default" . . . . .

My job promotion was a dream come true. I moved up in the ranks faster than my peers. This was where all the late nights and sacrifices really paid off. The move to the country, a better place to raise the kids, a larger house, more room, awesome backyard where we entertained all our friends. It was just perfect . . . . until the layoff. They said it was only temporary, that things would pick up and we would all get our jobs back . . . . that was 18 months ago.

We looked forward to retirement and our plans to travel the world. Oh we spent hours going over maps, read all the travel books, attended the seminar on that exciting excursion in the wilds of Africa. Can you imagine floating down the Nile, hiking in Tibet, dancing an Irish jig in Ireland? We had some great plans Bob and I.

At his annual physical the doctor noticed something – Bob had been slowing down lately but we were both working extra hours to save for the “Big Adventure” he was just tired.   I lost Bob 10 short months later. We thought we would have years of traveling together. The medical bills far exceeded our insurance, the drugs, the hospital stays, it was endless. How am ever going to pay them all off, everything is piling up. Bill after bill after bill. . . at my age how could I be so far in debt, we save all our lives,  how can I be losing my home?
